Deafening chants of “Tumeshinda” and “Haki yetu” could be heard as far as the killer bridge, a kilometer away. Neighbours could be seen drawing curtains and peeping. The events Judge, Mr. Rudolf Makhanu, Founding Director of Edens Stewards Organization had declared one team victorious for having collected the heaviest load of waste single use plastics. This happened yesterday the 17th Nov when over 67 children and 45 adults braved the hot sun and collected over a ton of waste plastics in Kandisi, courtesy of Better Environment for Children (BENCH), a children’s environmental organization. Other organizations that took part included Friends of Nairobi National Park and Eden’s Stewards. Eden’s Stewards is an Environmental Faith Based Organization (www.edenstewards.co.ke) actively engaged, jointly with other partners to realize a clean and green Ongata Rongai.
The cleanup entailed a story writing competition. Edens stewards will select and award the best story, and forward for uploading on UN Environment website.
Malachi, a brilliant and thoughtful journalist covered the event by recording interviews and taking award winning photos.
